I'm in the kitchen. [ he calls back, setting a pair of mugs down onto the table. it's coffee! there's a journal on the table, one alhaitham should recognize instantly as his parent's. ] It was a little reckless on my part, sure, but I think it was worth it.
[ There's a notable pause when Alhaitham steps into the kitchen, his eyes falling immediately on the journal during that moment before flicking over to where Kaveh is. ]
You used your wish on this.
[ It's not a question, the evidence is clearly in front of him, but there is a hesitant tone to it. That Kaveh was overwhelming selfless was nothing new. That Kaveh would turn that forever giving attitude toward him... ]
[ Setting his bag down, he moves over to pick up the book and look it over; each detail he has well-memorized by this point is there. Even if it were a copy, it was one made in incredible detail. Right down to every scribbled note. ]
I did. I thought it might be nice to have a memento from home... and what better book to start your new collection here than that one? [ he takes a seat beside the one he had set the journal in front of, sipping his coffee idly. he's exhausted, not to mention achy. ] Does everything look to be in order?
Every detail is accurate. It appears to be the genuine article.
[ He's quiet for a moment more, paging through the journal before gently closing it to set back on the table before seemingly returning to his everyday life putting away the groceries as if Kaveh hadn't gifted him one of the few things Alhaitham had attachment to. ]
[ But there is a moment. Where he passes by Kaveh and presses a kiss against his head, a hand resting on the other man's shoulder as he does. Just for that moment, his tone softens with sincerity. ]
[ kaveh is nursing his coffee with a smile, though he freezes up when alhaitham comes by and just straight up murders him in cold blood. he's thankful he has the mug to hide his, now, red face, because that was so much. ] ...y- you're welcome. [ he clears his throat. ] We probably shouldn't get too many books straight away, since we'll be moving soon, but... it's never too early to start, a- ah hah.
[ ...ok, but what if kaveh just grabs the nearest magazine and buries his face in it. do not perceive!!! ] I think we might have to look for a place with two extra rooms, so we can each have a study. I know you like your peace and quiet, and if we share, then you're going to be constantly subjected to my process.
I know it might end up being more expensive, but what if we were to get a plot of land and just... build our own house on it. We could more easily decide the layout, since it might work in your favor to put our offices on opposite ends.
[ ... The idea certainly has merit to it. And quite thankfully one of the individuals sitting at this table had part of the experience they needed to cut some of the costs. ]
It'll almost certainly be more costly. But I'm not opposed to the idea, if we can obtain a reasonable estimate for supply and labor costs. But I assume we'll be leaving such matters of consideration in the hands of a reliable architect?
I'll start looking into all of that. I have a couple of people in mind already... [ since he's talked to at least half a dozen people about the festival he and ayaka are planning. some seem more reliable than others. ] I'll start working on some sketches, but while I can take the lead on this endeavor I want it to be done together.
[ Of course Kaveh already has his eyes toward resources to use. Has resources to consider, even, something Alhaitham himself would be lacking if he'd been put in charge considering he was still working his way through reading the entire local library (and yes, he was going to do just that). ]
[ But Kaveh's last words get Alhaitham to raise a brow, more curious than confused. ]
[ he's been doing his best to find his footing here, because he's got a clean slate. he wants to avoid making the same mistakes, so he can finally have the life people think he does. ] Yeah... I'll draw up a couple sketches and then you'll give me your input. It's going to be our home, right, so I want it to be something we can both enjoy.
[ Considering the last time they collaborated ended in... what it did, he's admittedly surprised that Kaveh would be so willing to jump into a similar scenario again. On the other hand, this wasn't an academic paper. This was their personal lives which... could go better or worse. ]
[ Better, he finds himself faintly hoping. ]
It will be interesting, to see what results from our collaboration this time.
I don't think it'll go as [ hesitates. ] poorly. We are the only ones involved, and it'll benefit us to work together... [ not that that hadn't been true during their paper, but there had also been a number of other people involved, people that couldn't keep up with them... ] I have faith in our us. [ he smiles, grabbing his coffee and moving a little closer to alhaitham. ] Is there anything else you'd like for the home?
...well I think after all this time you deserve some niceties, but we can always deal with the details later. [ he's excited to start sketching things! ] I need to run out for a bit to, ah, pick up some things. Are you going to stick around or did you have plans to go out?
No [ that's a lie. ] not for anything in particular. [ that's also a lie. ] I just thought we could spend some time later... relaxing. [ that's not a lie. ] I can help with dinner too! But for now. I'll see you in a little while. [ he grabs mehrak and hurries out the door, heading for the center segment and, more specifically, the red light district. it's time to do some shopping. ]
[ The forced casualness of Kaveh's responses earn him a pointed stare all the way until the man leaves. Very smooth, Kaveh, nothing suspicious here. But whatever he has planned is something for future Alhaitham to deal with, so current Alhaitham instead heads for his desk to finish off his work for the day. ]
[ kaveh comes back and immediately heads into the bedroom. he has mehrak stash the stuff in a drawer beside the bed, his suitcase confused about the materials purchased, but he hushes him... asking him to go hang out in the study while he rejoins alhaitham in the living room. ] Enjoy your afternoon?
[ Alhaitham watches over his book as Kaveh comes in, immediately goes to their currently shared bedroom, and a short time later sends Mehrek floating off into the remnants of Kaveh's old bedroom that's been converted to a study if one ignored that they hadn't fixed the walls yet. ]
I did~ and more. [ he stares at the book alhaitham's got. ] ...still reading? I bet you could use a break. [ he heads over to the couch to take a seat beside him, casually reaching out to try to relieve him of the book. ] I'm back now besides, so you should spend a little time with me.
[ So long as Kaveh treats the book with the respect it deserves, Alhaitham lets him take it easily from his hands, fixing the older man with a pointed raise of his brow in turn now that his distractions have been removed. ]
Oh? And what were you thinking of spending time doing?
...a few things, actually. [ kaveh scoots a little closer, eventually moving into his lap. he sets a hand on his chest, playfully squeezing at it as he leans into a kiss him. ] I bought a couple of things I thought might be fun to play with. Indulge me, will you?

[ Soon enough though he's taking his seat opposite of Kaveh, taking the mug to sip the offered coffee while leveling a stare over the cup at him. ]
What do you think of a place with room for a study then?

I'd rather not have to block out the sounds of hammering while working, you're correct there.

I believe I already have everything I need at this point. Everything else would be niceties or conveniences.
